About this picture

Bachs is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .

coat of arms

Blazon

Divided diagonally by silver and blue, an eight-pointed blue star in silver

When Bachs received a new church in 1714 - then part of the Regensberg bailiwick - the Zurich shield was attached to it, which was supplemented by a faceted star as a symbol for the municipality of Bach. When it came to establishing an official coat of arms, a simple blue star was chosen instead of a faceted star. In March 1931 the adjusted coat of arms was adopted by the local council.

geography

Bachs is located in the Bachsertal , which the Fisibach flows through. To the northeast of the village is the Stadlerberg ( 637  m above sea level ), to the southwest of it the Egg ( 671  m above sea level ). The community borders on the Aargau communities of Fisibach and a few meters away from Siglistorf and the Zurich communities Weiach , Stadel , Neerach , Steinmaur , Schöfflisdorf and Oberweningen .

politics

Emanuel Hunziker has been the mayor since 2006 (as of 2017).

economy

The comprehensive protection ordinance issued by the Zurich government council severely restricts the development of the community.

Although the air distance to the city of Zurich is only 18 km, Bachs is still a very rural community, quiet and a bit remote. As the only municipality in the Dielsdorf district, it does not (yet) belong to the Zurich agglomeration , which also has to do with the poor connection to public transport, which is guaranteed by a post bus line.

history

The earliest settlement is the Hodleten farm mentioned in 1277. Around 1150 , the landowners, the Counts of Nimburg , donated part of the farm to the Allerheiligen monastery in Schaffhausen . The castles of Waldhausen and Ruebisberg guarded the border to Aargau .

Bachs passed from the Habsburgs to Zurich in 1409 .

Since the fire disaster of 1763, the people of Bach have made a distinction between the Alt- and Neubachs.

In the late afternoon of December 7, 1944, in Eggwald the two Bach's spies Walter Laubscher and Herman Grimm by a firing squad executed . It was the last execution under military criminal law and the last execution in Switzerland at all. The place of execution has since been known to the population as "Hitlerplatz".

Attractions

Nature reserve

With 44%, the forest takes up almost half of the area of the municipality. A cantonal protection ordinance has been restricting the agricultural use of large parts of the valley for several decades, which initially caused bad blood, but is now widely approved. The Bachsertal is today - not least thanks to this regulation - one of the last intact cultural landscapes in the canton of Zurich.

Sports

Bach is a stronghold in basketball for women. In the top division of Switzerland, the National League A , the Bachser team won the Swiss championship title four times in a row in 1979, 1989 and between 2004 and 2007.
