The Waldhausen ruin is an abandoned medieval hilltop castle with no visible remains in the area of the municipality of Fisibach in the canton of Aargau .
location
The Burgstall is located south of the hamlet of Waldhausen above the Bach Valley . The castle was secured to the south and east by steep slopes, to the north and west by moats. The canton border between the cantons of Aargau and Zurich used to run through the ruins. Due to a border correction, the site has been entirely in Aargau since 1982.
history
Little is known about the castle. It was first mentioned in a document in 1113, when the "Free of Waldhausen" donated the Wislikofen provost , which they had founded, with their property to the St. Blasien monastery in the Black Forest. In this document, issued on December 27th, the places Böbikon, Mellikon, Rümikon, Schneisingen and Siglistorf, in which the provost owned property, were mentioned for the first time. The castle was abandoned in 1440 and already referred to as a ruin in a border description from 1470 .
