Castle Wessenberg is an Outbound castle in the Canton of Aargau . It was on the Wessenberg between Hottwil and Mandach and was the headquarters of the Wessenberg family .
history
The castle Wessenberg was probably built at the end of the 12th century on the northern end of the Wessenberg, on the municipal ban of Mandach. It was inhabited until the middle of the 14th century. It is partly believed that the decay was related to the Basel earthquake in 1356 . In 1373, Duke Leopold of Austria confirmed Hans and Pantaleon von Wessenberg to have the rights to their festivals Wessenberg in Etzwil and Mandach, namely compulsory and ban, large and small courts, taxes and services with all freedoms and rights. By the middle of the 15th century, the castle fell into disrepair and the stones were used to build houses in the surrounding villages. Today only parts of the floor plan can be seen. The Twingmarch of the Wessenberg rule has been handed down to the year 1600.
