Klingnau Castle is a castle in the small town of Klingnau in Aargau .
history
Klingnau Castle began in the 13th century. The lands came to her husband Ulrich II von Klingen via Ita von Tegerfelden (documented 1227–1248). The couple founded Klingnau on December 26, 1239 and had a residential tower built there in the years that followed. The son Walther von Klingen , known as a minstrel, sold the castle and town to the Bishop of Constance in 1269.
In the course of time it received several additions. It was the seat of the bailiffs of the Bishopric of Constance , and the bishop also occasionally resided here. In the 16th century the castle - except for the residential tower - was so dilapidated that it was completely rebuilt in 1582. Below the castle is the Klingnau Provost Office .
Todays use
Today, the Klingnau Castle houses the toy library and the «Alfa» youth club. It is also used as a wedding venue by the Leuggern registry office. The knight's hall was renovated in a historical style and can be rented for festive occasions.
