The Brestenberg Castle is a small, in baroque built style castle south of Seengen in the Swiss canton of Aargau , about 200 meters from the shores of Lake Hallwil removed. This is an original country estate of the Lords of Hallwyl , which was created in 1625 through the expansion of a house built in the 16th century.
history
In 1622, Dean Samuel Gruner from Seengen sold the Brestenberg property for 4500 guilders to Hans Rudolf von Hallwyl , who three years later commissioned a completely new building. From 1709 to 1761 Brestenberg Castle was owned by the Lords of Breiten-Landenberg, and from 1761 to 1805 by the Bernese patrician Colonel von Goumoens. In 1710, a stately farm building was built on the east side of the courtyard. The castle was also owned by the von May family . After several changes of ownership, the castle was acquired by the doctor Adolf Erismann in 1844. He converted the facility into a water spa and had a hall built for this purpose, in which lounges and baths were housed.
The establishment, known throughout Europe, was in operation until after the Second World War and then served as a hotel until the 1980s. Today the palace is once again a residential building owned by the Winterthur Foundation for Art, Culture and History by Bruno Stefanini and is not open to the public.
