history

Description of the municipality of Hüttikon from 1873

Hüttikon was first mentioned in a document on February 3, 883. With this document, an Adalbert transferred his goods to the Fraumünster Abbey in Zurich and exchanged them for those in the no longer existing village of Borsikon on the Türlersee . The entire judiciary, i.e. the high court, was in the hands of the Habsburgs in the 14th century . The place itself belonged to the Siggenthal office at that time . Some of the farms in the Hutto settlement at that time came into the possession of the Wettingen monastery and the Baden hospital administration very early on . This close connection with the Aargau is due to the fact that the place belonged to the county of Baden from 1415 to 1798 . From this point on, Hüttikon was a federal subject. During the Helvetic Republic from 1798 to 1803, it was assigned to the newly founded canton of Baden . In 1803 Hüttikon was detached from the canton of Aargau and incorporated into the canton of Zurich. In 1868 it was separated from the Würenlos parish and assigned to the Otelfingen parish . Hüttikon has existed as a municipality in today's sense since 1814.

Art and culture

Thatched roof house, built in 1682
old syringe and community center, built before 1870
Gasthof Alte Post

The only thatched roof house still in existence in the canton of Zurich was built around 1682 based on the Aargau model and came into the possession of the canton of Zurich in 1940. The Hüttikerschule, which was only operated during the winter, was housed in this house until 1874.

In 1970/71 the thatched roof house was overhauled and covered with reeds imported from Poland and Romania. The reed cover is more durable than the straw cover, and it is difficult to find wheat straw that was threshed by hand these days because combines are now able to harvest much more efficiently. Even though a combine harvester can be set so that it does not shred the straws, it will still injure them and make them unsuitable for a thatched roof (cracks in the straw absorb water). For a few years the house served as a youth hostel .

In the thatched roof house is a kitchen with an open hearth and smoke-blackened beams. The tiled stove dates from 1848. The house was restored in 1985 by the property management of the Canton of Zurich, which has owned the historic house since it was placed under protection.
