The Siggenthal is a region northwest of Baden in the Swiss canton of Aargau . It lies north of the Limmat just before it flows into the Aare and consists of the two communities Obersiggenthal and Untersiggenthal .

In the Middle Ages, the Siggenthal was in the territory of the Counts of Kyburg , from 1264 in that of the Habsburgs . The monasteries of Sankt Blasien , Wettingen and Königsfelden were important landlords . From 1415 the Siggenthal was part of the Siggenamt in the county of Baden , a common rule of the Swiss Confederation .

In 1695 the Siggenthal was divided into two communities. The villages Obersiggingen and Untersiggingen formed the municipality of Untersiggenthal. The municipality of Obersiggenthal emerged from Kirchdorf, Nussbaumen, Rieden and Hertenstein. After the Helvetic Republic was proclaimed in 1798, both communities belonged to the canton of Baden . They have been part of the Baden district in the canton of Aargau since 1803 . At the end of 2003 they had a total of 14,057 inhabitants.
