Otelfingen ( Swiss German Otelfingä ) is a municipality in the district of Dielsdorf in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .

coat of arms

Blazon

In black a silver boar's head

The current coat of arms was first shown in Gerold Edlibach 's coat of arms book in 1493. At that time the wild boar or boar stood for the gentleman family of the Otelfinger family. The old village sign, a golden sheaf and a green-leafed grape on a silver background was replaced by the boar's head by the resolution of the community assembly on December 23, 1928.

history

Otelfingen is first mentioned in the 11th century in connection with the Wettingen monastery . Of 1409 made until the fall of the city-state Zurich 1798 Otelfingen with the twelve municipalities Boppelsen , Buchs ZH , Dielsdorf , Regensberg , Sünikon , Niedersteinmaur , Upper Steinmaur , Bach , Schöfflisdorf , Oberweningen , Schleinikon and Niederweningen the bailiwick Regensberg . In 1409 the Austrian Duke Friedrich IV ("the one with the empty pocket") pledged the rule to the city of Zurich. A deposit was no longer released.

geography

Otelfingen is located in the Furttal at the foot of the Lägern along the Dorfbach , near the city of Zurich and on the border with the canton of Aargau . 47.0% of the municipal area is used for agriculture, 37.2% is covered with forest, 5.8% is traffic area and 9.0% is settlement area, 0.3% is water.

Villagescape

Otelfingen, along with Regensberg, is the only municipality in the Dielsdorf district to have a village center that is included in the cantonal inventory of sites worthy of protection. Numerous early modern timber frame houses testify to a formerly wealthy peasant seed. In addition to the reformed church from 1607 with the distinctive bell helmet, the lower mill is the most striking building in the village center. The former grinding room now serves as a cultural center, which is particularly home to classical concerts.

Economy and Infrastructure

Otelfingen has an industrial area with several international industrial and technology companies, including the Blumer company founded in 1897.

Public transport

Like all Zurich communities, Otelfingen is part of the Zurich Transport Association (ZVV). The Otelfingen station of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is served every half hour by the S 6 Baden - Regensdorf-Watt - Zurich HB - Uetikon of the Zurich S-Bahn , as is the Otelfingen Golfpark S-Bahn. As an alternative, a new S-Bahn route was proposed in 2014 to open up the "Science City" ETH Hönggerberg via a tunnel station.

Special

«Furttalstadt»

In the 1960s there were plans to build a “new city” instead of Expo 64 in Otelfingen that would have housed 30,000 people. The initiator of this idea was, among others, the writer Max Frisch . This city, designed according to the latest architectural and sociological findings at the time, would have been compact on the one hand, but would also have included spacious green areas and good transport links. However, the satellite city was never built because the resistance was too great. The “Furttalstadt” model has been owned by the Rapperswil University of Applied Sciences since October 2008.

Youth circus

The Otelli Circus has existed in Otelfingen since 1986 . This youth circus was founded by Fritz Zollinger .
