Oberrieden (formerly Obrendrieden ) is a municipality in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .
geography
Oberrieden is located on several terraces on the left bank of Lake Zurich , about 11 km southeast of Zurich . The western municipal boundary extends over the Zimmerberg down into the Sihl valley , the eastern to the middle of Lake Zurich. The northern neighboring municipality is Thalwil , the southern the district capital Horgen .
The municipal area is 276 hectares, of which 15% is agriculture, 42% forest, 14% traffic and 27% settlements.
history
- The earliest detectable traces of settlement can be based on scrap wood, Silex tool and pottery shards to the years 3051-3037 BC - the New Stone Age - retrace.
- The first school was founded in Oberrieden in 1620.
- After the parish, which was Horgen's fourth watch at the time, had separated from Horgen, Oberrieden became a politically independent parish on May 13, 1773.

Oberrieden has 5071 inhabitants (2017), the proportion of foreigners being 21%. In the last five years the population has increased by 2.1%. 19% of the Oberriedner population are 0–19 years old. 57% are between 20 and 64 years old and 24% are older than 64 years. There are 2,294 households in Oberrieden (2015).

politics
- In the 2019 National Council elections, the share of the vote in Oberrieden was: SVP 25.13%, FDP 21.56%, SP 15.11%, glp 13.78%, Greens 11.65%, CVP 5.48%, EPP 3.02 %, AL 1.71%, and BDP 1.16%.
- Martin Arnold (SVP) is the mayor (as of May 2020).
Public transport
Two railway lines run through the municipality, the left bank Zurichseebahn and the Thalwil – Arth-Goldau railway line , which is why the municipality has two train stations. The Oberrieden Dorf train station is served by the S 24 Thayngen - Schaffhausen / Weinfelden - Winterthur - Zurich Airport - Zurich HB - Thalwil - Horgen Oberdorf - Zug . The S 8 Winterthur - Wallisellen - Zurich HB - Thalwil - Pfäffikon SZ stops at the lower station .
In the main season (June to September) the Zürichsee-Schiffahrtsgesellschaft Oberrieden operates three times a day in the direction of Rapperswil or Zurich . The bus lines 145 and 136 of the Zimmerberg Busbetriebe together go to six bus stops in the municipality.
Attractions
- The oldest house in Oberriedens was built in 1294 and is now a listed building.
- Another historical building is the old "Spycher im Länz", which was built in 1553 and which today belongs to the municipality.
- A showpiece of the village is the reformed church Oberrieden , built by Hans Ulrich Grubenmann in 1761 , which is used today by the evangelical-reformed parish.
- Next to the Chrüzbüel, built in 1798, has been the Roman Catholic Church of Heilig Chrüz, built as a rotunda , since 1988 .
- The two villas “Schönfels” and “Sonnenbühl” are two prestigious buildings in Oberriedien.
- A historically significant industrial building is the aircraft factory in the "Usser Scheller", which was operated from 1923 to 1935 by the pilot and aircraft manufacturer Alfred Comte.
- Lookout points in the community are the "Frohe Aussicht", the "Laugerenried" and the "Aebnet", accessible via the Lottereteweg.
The annual "Open-air Oberrieden" has become known as an event.
