Rieden is a district of the municipality of Wallisellen , Bülach district , in the Swiss canton of Zurich .
Place name
The place name goes back either to Old High German (h) riot 'Schilfgras' (cf. Swiss German Riet, Ried ) or perhaps to the unoccupied Old High German (h) riod 'clearing'.
history
Vineyards, originally the county Kyburg duly came 1424/52 high court and in 1489 also down court at the city-state of Zurich. From 1831 until the merger with the larger neighboring municipality of Wallisellen on January 1, 1916, the place formed an independent political municipality .
From 1724 to 1827 the Kuhn family ran an oven painting in Rieden .
Today's free-standing clock tower, Rieden's landmark, was built in 1866 and stands on the site of a St. Nicholas chapel, first mentioned in 1370 and profaned after the Reformation .
coat of arms
The coat of arms or the flag, which is identical to it, is used today on festive occasions as well as by local clubs such as the men's choir, the shooting club and the cycling club.
The heraldic animal is based on a folk etymological reinterpretation of Riet / Ried as a male 'male house dog'.
