Frank Klötzli

Frank A. Klötzli (born February 7, 1934 in Thun ) is a Swiss ecologist and university professor.

Life

After completing his school education, Klötzli studied at the ETH Zurich and graduated in 1959. In 1964 he was awarded a Dr. sc. Nat. PhD.

After receiving his doctorate, he worked as a research assistant or senior assistant at the Geobotanical Institute of the ETH with Heinz Ellenberg . He completed his habilitation in 1969 and was then appointed private lecturer for applied plant sociology and plant ecology. From 1976 until his retirement in 1999 he was a professor in these subjects.

Klötzli has been an expert for the Federal Nature and Heritage Protection Commission since 1970 and was a member of the Swiss UNESCO Commission from 1972 to 1988 . In 1984 he presided over the Swiss Academy of Natural Sciences and in 1987 he was a member of the World Council of Science of the UNESCO main conference in Paris. In 2006 he received the Reinhold Tüxen Prize , among other things for his scientific projects on glacier research. On November 27, 2012, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Salzburg . Klötzli has a seat in various national institutions, for example the Biological Commission or the Swiss Environment Council.
