Gorbio is a French commune with 1549 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The inhabitants are called Gorbarins .
Gorbio is a typical "Village Perché" (mountain village), it is located between the southern towns of Roquebrune and Menton on the Mediterranean Sea and Sainte-Agnès , another mountain village to the northeast in the French Maritime Alps . So far, it is still off the beaten track.
In Gorbio, the Occitan Niçois is spoken as a dialect , in contrast to the neighboring communities Roquebrune and Menton, where the Ligurian Monegasque is spoken.
To the south of the village, the A 8 car route ( La Provençale ) runs partly over viaducts and partly through tunnels due to the nature of the mountainous terrain .
