Tourrette-Levens is a French municipality with 4951 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Alpes-Maritimes in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Nice and the canton of Tourrette-Levens . It is a member of the Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur municipal association . The inhabitants are called Tourrettans .
geography
Tourrette-Levens is located about 13 kilometers north of Nice on the Banquière river below the Col de Châteauneuf de Contes . Tourrette-Levens is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Levens in the north, Bendejun in the northeast, Châteauneuf-Villevieille in the east, Cantaron and Nice in the southeast, Saint-André-de-la-Roche in the south, Falicon in the south and southwest, Aspremont and Castagniers in the West and Saint-Blaise to the north-west.
history
The castle complex was laid out in the twelfth century by the Knights Templar. After its dissolution, the Chabaud family and with them the Order of St. John became masters of the castle and the place.
