Peillon

Peillon ( Provencal Peilhon , Italian Peglione ) is a municipality in eastern Provence in France in the Alpes-Maritimes department near Nice and Monaco and a "Village Perché", a mountain village or eagle's nest . Peillon has 1,457 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) on a community area of ​​around 9 square kilometers. The highest houses are at 720 meters above sea level. It is around 30 kilometers to Monaco and 21 kilometers to Nice. The establishment of the place goes back to the 10th century.

Peillon lies on a mountain ledge, surrounded by a deep gorge. The streets of the community are partly connected by stairs. There is a campsite and two smaller hotels in the municipality.

Hiking trails

Peillon is a stage on the new Via Alpina long-distance hiking trail . Since the place is quite remote, it has so far been spared the large tourist flows.
