Roman victory monument in La Turbie |
La Turbie is a municipality with 3,063 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Alpes-Maritimes department in south-eastern France . It is located directly above the Principality of Monaco .
history
The city was built with stones, mostly from a Roman victory monument, the Tropaeum Alpium . It was 7/6 BC. At the time of Emperor Augustus on the occasion of the victory over various Alpine tribes. From 1893 to 1932 La Turbie was connected to Beausoleil by a rack railway .
