André Ratti (born October 8, 1935 in Basel ; † October 25, 1986 there ) was a Swiss television journalist .

Life

Ratti had worked at Walter Verlag in Olten since the 1960s . In the 1970s he increasingly took on scientific topics. He made a name for himself with the program Menschen Technik Wissenschaft (MTW) , which he launched and moderated .

When he found out in 1985 that he had AIDS , he took a career break. He was elected the first president of Swiss AIDS Federation. At their first press conference on July 2, 1985, he announced: "My name is André Ratti, I'm 50, homosexual, and I have AIDS." His participation in meetings was very limited as the disease progressed.

In 1983 he gave Markus Kutter the idea for a feature film that was made in 1990: The Death of Basel (Director: Urs Odermatt ).
