The founding of Reed , a British media company, to the year 1894 back in the Albert E. Reed his print shop for daily newspapers in Tovil Mill in Kent (UK) opened. In 1903 the company became a stock corporation . The name of the parent company was changed to Reed International Ltd. in 1970. and changed to Reed International plc in 1982.

In 1993 Elsevier and Reed merged and since then have operated as Reed Elsevier Group plc The shareholders are in equal parts Reed Elsevier plc and Reed Elsevier NV
