action

Bo Laramie lives in Malibu and is a well-known actor. A group of paparazzi led by Rex Harper harasses Laramie and his family, whose photos appear in magazines. After an argument with Harper, Laramie is sentenced to therapy while Harper gets away unmolested.

One day the paparazzi chasing him push Laramie's car, which leads to an accident in which his wife and son are injured. His son falls into a coma . Police investigator Burton is investigating the accident and is convinced that the reporters caused it, but cannot prove it. Laramie realizes he's on his own and takes revenge by killing three of the four reporters involved. The fourth, Harper, breaks into Laramie's house because Laramie's allegation is that he has murdered the third paparazzi. He is overwhelmed by the actor and arrested by Burton, who seems to recognize Laramie's involvement in the deaths, but does nothing against him. The film ends with the son waking up from a coma.

Reviews

Joe Leydon wrote in Variety magazine on September 7, 2004 that the film was a "blunt revenge melodrama" directed by a former hairstylist. He was "visually uninspired" and "dramatically overheated" ; the film looks like a direct-to-video production . Only Dennis Farina saved the honor of the actors involved by portraying a police investigator "cunningly and discreetly" ( "Dennis Farina claims acting honors with sly and subdued portrayal of a police detective" ).

Film-Dienst wrote that the "questionable avenging film" annoyed "with its attitude" just as "as it tires with the extremely upright staging" .

background

The film was shot in Los Angeles . Its production amounted to an estimated 20 million US dollars . The film grossed approximately $ 15.7 million in US cinemas. Producer Mel Gibson made a cameo as a patient waiting for Laramie's therapist. Director Paul Abascal , Matthew McConaughey , Chris Rock and Vince Vaughn can also be seen with short appearances in the film.
