action

The story takes place in a small Texas town in the late 1980s .

Richard Dane surprises the gangster Freddy Russel, who broke into his house and shoots him in self-defense. As a result, Dane and his family are threatened by Freddy's father, Ben Russell, who has just been released from prison. After breaking into the Danes' house, Russel escapes, but is arrested by the police.

When Dane is later at the police station, he accidentally sees a wanted poster from Freddy Russel and realizes that this is not the man he killed. He talks about it with Sheriff Price, who doesn't believe him and says that he must be wrong. Dane finds no peace and calls the sheriff at night to talk to him again. When Price first put him off and lets himself be denied when he calls again, Dane drives to the sheriff's office. There he sees Price and other police officers driving away in a car with the arrested Ben Russel. He follows them and watches as the officers stun Russel and lay him on a railroad track to murder him and fake an accidental death. At the last moment he rescues the unconscious from an approaching train and takes him to a forest hut that he inherited from his father.

Dane explains to Russel that he didn't kill his son and that the police only claimed that the intruder was Freddy in order to lure Ben into a trap. However, he is only convinced when the two dig up the buried body again, which is not Freddy. Russell asks his friend, private investigator Jim Bob Luke, for help. He finds out that Freddy worked for the Dixie Mafia and is now in the witness protection program because he testified against the Mafia. Nevertheless, Luke can find Freddy's place of residence and the three men make their way to Freddy.

Outside Freddy's house they have a car accident with a friend of Freddy's. Jim Bob finds dozens of video cassettes in the trunk , which he takes with him. These are snuff films that show how Freddy and his friend murder women in an extremely brutal way. After seeing the footage, Ben decides to kill his own son. Richard and Jim Bob want to help him. They are spying on Freddy and want to intercept him in the evening after he comes home from work in his video store . A car with several men and a woman gets in their way. Freddy and his friend drive off with the others. Richard, Jim Bob and Ben realize that the woman should be the next murder victim and follow them. The showdown takes place in a lonely house where Freddy's video studio is located . The three are shot, but can shoot any gangster. In the end, Ben kills his son with a headshot . However, he was fatally hit by himself and died shortly afterwards.
