action
Judge Boudreau is a son of the famous Cynthia Boudreau, who got him a job as a film critic for the local newspaper. The critic is threatened with dismissal because he often cannot meet the deadline. Boudreau borrows money from drug dealer Ronnie Stover, with whose wife Vicky he was in a relationship years ago. Boudreau is still in love with Vicky and has a relationship with her.
Stover learns from his customer Cherry, a dancer, that Bedford Shaw killed a prostitute she was friends with. She is said to have photos that document the crime committed in a motel room. Stover persuades Judge Boudreau to help him with the blackmail. Keith Michaels takes photos of Boudreau and Vicky and threatens to hand them over to Stover.
Reviews
Kevin Thomas wrote in the Los Angeles Times on April 11, 1997 that the script was multi-faceted and effective, but the direction of the debut Leslie Greif lacked a clear line and sense of style. The result is amusing, but seems unlikely; it is better suited for television than for cinema. Eric Stoltz is "very good" in the lead role. The film contains black humor and "sharp social observations" .
backgrounds
The film was shot in Dallas , Fort Worth and Tulsa . It opened in US cinemas on April 11, 1997.
