Daddy and Them - Durchgeknallt in Arkansas ( Daddy and Them ) is an American White Trash - Comedy by and starring Billy Bob Thornton from the year 2001 .

Ruby Montgomery lives in a provincial town in the southern United States. She is jealous of her sister Rose, who was a friend of Ruby's husband, Claude, about twenty years ago. Claude keeps replying to her allegations that Ruby was still too young for sex at the age of 13.

Ruby's mother Jewel often accuses Claude of not being successful enough in life. The man lives off temporary jobs, the last one he earns barely more than five dollars an hour. He asks a seller in the store to cut the sausage thin and give it to him on credit. The seller replies that Claude already owes him too much. Claude gets upset first and throws the sausage at the seller, then calms down and repeats his request.

Hazel Montgomery, an uncle of Claude, attempts murder and is arrested. The family gathers in Little Rock , where they visit Hazel. On the evening of the first day, Ruby and Claude go outside and have sex on the hood of a car. There they fall asleep half-naked and are found by one of the relatives.

The family gets drunk. The group is expanded to include married lawyers Elaine and Lawrence Bowen, who are tasked with defending Hazel.

Reviews

David Nusair wrote in Reel Film Reviews that the film contained nothing above average, but the depictions and the script made it worth mentioning. The characters are uncomfortable at the beginning and would devote their time to small wars. They would develop later and end up becoming " lovable ". Billy Bob Thornton has made great strides as a director since his previous film All the Beautiful Horses .

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a " crude " " tragic comedy about a" white trash "family, the members of which are characterized by quirks and peculiarities ". The cast convince “ with very precise everyday observations ”.
