Kolchugino ( Russian Кольчугино ) is a city in the Vladimir Oblast ( Russia ) with 45,776 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 75 km northwest of the Oblast capital Vladimir on the Pekscha , a left tributary of the Klyazma in the river system of the Volga . The Pekscha is dammed into a small dam northeast of the city.
Kolchugino is administratively directly subordinate to the Oblast and at the same time the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
The city lies on the railway line ( Moscow -) Belkowo - Ivanovo (route km 172 from Moscow) opened on this section in 1899 . The R75 road also runs through Kolchugino , which connects the M7 road west of Vladimir via Kolchugino and Alexandrov with the M8 road north of Sergiev Posad .
history
Kolchugino was established in 1871 as a workers' settlement in connection with the establishment of a factory for copper products and wire by the Moscow merchant Alexander Grigoryevich Kolchugin (1839–1899), after whom the factory and location were named.
In the 1920s the place had the status of an urban-type settlement , and on March 20, 1931 the town charter was granted.

economy
The main companies of the city are the work Koltschugzmetmet , which manufactures non-ferrous metal products, as well as the outsourced from this Aktiengesellschaft 1997 Koltschug-Mizar AG , which based on the century-old tradition of the work utensils and Tools & Instruments produced from precious metals and alloys, as well as the work of electrical cables . There are also companies in the textile and food industries and a furniture factory.
