Kameschkowo ( Russian Камешково ) is a city in the Vladimir Oblast ( Russia ) with 13,103 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located in the Kljasma-Nerl lowlands about 40 km northeast of the Oblast capital Vladimir on the left of the Kljasma , a left tributary of the Oka, which flows into the Volga .

Kameschkowo is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .

history

Kameschkowo was established in 1892 as a workers' settlement in connection with the establishment of a weaving mill.

In 1927 the status of an urban-type settlement and on June 12, 1951 the city charter was granted. Since February 10, 1940, the place is the administrative seat of a Rajons named after him.

Culture and sights

Near the city there are several architectural monuments of the 17th to 19th centuries, including the Church of the Resurrection ( Воскресенская церковь / Woskressenskaja Zerkow) of 1794 in the village Woskressenskoje , the Church of the Icon of the Georgian Mother of God ( церковь Грузинской Богоматери / Zerkow Grusinskoi Bogomateri ) of 1812 in the village of Gaticha and the Holy Trinity Church ( Троицкая церковь / Troitskaya zerkow) from 1801 in the village of Gorky .

Economy and Infrastructure

The city's largest company is the textile factory, which produces cotton fabrics, gauze and wadding . There is also an electrotechnical factory and companies in the food industry.

The city is located on the railway line Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod (km 235), opened in 1862 , on which a large part of the trains of the Trans-Siberian Railway run on its western part from Moscow.
