history

In the center of Sudogda

The place was first mentioned in documents from the beginning of the 17th century as Sudogodskaja sloboda , later simply as the church village Sudogda . It was named after the river of the same name and is of Finno-Ugric origin.

In 1778, despite the small population, it was granted city rights as the administrative center of a district (Ujesds). In 1788 a general development plan came into force.

In 1806 and 1838 the city was badly affected by fires. There was an economic boom in the second half of the 19th century: the first linen weaving mill was opened in 1879, and in 1897 a factory for glass bottles was established.
