Lakinsk ( Russian Лакинск ) is a city in the Vladimir Oblast ( Russia ) with 15,715 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located about 30 km southwest of the Oblast capital, Vladimir, on the left of the Klyazma , a left tributary of the Oka, which flows into the Volga .

Lakinsk belongs to the Sobinka district and is only about four kilometers south of its administrative center, the city of Sobinka on the other side of the Klyazma .

history

In the area of ​​today's city, the village of Undol has been known since the end of the 15th century . In the 18th century the estate of the Suvorov family was located here, on which the later Generalissimo Alexander Suvorov lived from 1784 to 1786.

In 1869 a weaving mill was founded. After the October Revolution of 1917, the factory was named after the Bolshevik party functionary Michail Lakin (1876–1905) who was murdered here , and the associated workers' settlement was named accordingly, Lakinski .

In 1927 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and in 1969 under its current name the town charter .

Culture and sights

Kazan Church

In Lakinsk the Church of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan , or Kazan Church for short ( Казанская церковь / Kazanskaja zerkow) from the end of the 17th century has been preserved.

Economy and Infrastructure

In the city there are textile ( Lakinskaja manufaktura ), furniture and food industries (including the large- scale dairy Lakinskoje moloko ).

The city is located on the Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod railway line ( Undol station ; route km 161), which opened in 1862 and on which a large part of the Trans-Siberian Railway's western section now runs from Moscow. The M7 Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – KazanUfa road (part of the European route 22 ) also runs through Lakinsk .
