Strunino ( Russian Струнино ) is a city in the Vladimir Oblast ( Russia ) with 14,369 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located at the eastern end of the Moscow ridge about 130 km northwest of the Oblast capital Vladimir on the Pitschkura , a source river of the Scherna in the river system of the Volga .

Strunino belongs to the Alexandrov Rajon and is in fact a satellite town of the administrative center a few kilometers to the east.

history

The village of Strunino was first mentioned in a document in 1492. The name is probably derived from the family name Strunin , which in turn goes back to a Fyodor Struna Suchorin from Pereslavl .

A workers' settlement was created in connection with the establishment of a textile factory, which was granted city rights in 1938.

Church of the Transfiguration of Christ
Strunino railway station

The small Church of the Transfiguration of Christ ( церковь Преображения Господня / zerkow Preobraschenija Gospodnja) stands in Strunino from 1893 to 1898. During the Soviet era , it was used as the house of the pioneers , but renovated and re- consecrated as a church in the 1990s .

Economy and Infrastructure

The most important companies in the city are the factory for cotton fabrics and clothing Struninskaja manufaktura as well as a factory for cardboard packaging of a Russian- Irish joint venture .

The city lies on the railway line Moscow - Yaroslavl , opened in 1870 , today part of the main line of the Trans-Siberian Railway (route km 105), from which the northeast section of the Great Moscow Railway Ring branches off in the direction of Orechowo-Sujewo .

The road R75 , which connects the trunk road M7 (west of Vladimir) via Kolchugino and Alexandrov with the M8 north of Sergiev Posad , leads north past Strunino.
