Kosterjowo ( Russian Костерёво ) is a small town in Vladimir Oblast ( Russia ) with 9073 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located on the northern edge of the Meshchora lowlands about 50 km west of the Oblast capital Vladimir on the Lipnja river (also Bolshaya Lipnja ), a left tributary of the Klyasma in the river system of the Volga .

Kosterjowo belongs to the Petushki Rajon .

history

The place arose as a settlement near a railway station opened in 1890 to serve a glassworks about 25 kilometers away. It was named after the owner of the plant II Kosterjow.

The settlement later grew in connection with the establishment of a supplier plant for textile machine construction in 1905 and another in 1912.

In 1939 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and in 1981 the town charter .

The city has a local museum.

Economy and Infrastructure

In Kosterjowo there is a supplier plant for textile machine construction, a sawmill and a factory for plastic products .

The city lies on the railway line Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod (route km 135), opened in 1862 , on which today a large part of the trains of the Trans-Siberian Railway run on its western part from Moscow.

The M7 Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – KazanUfa trunk road (part of European route 22 ) passes Kosterjowo to the north.
