The Gliwicki Teatr Muzyczny (Gliwice Music Theater) is a music theater in Gliwice (Gleiwitz).

history

The building, at that time still located in Richtersdorf , was built in 1827 by Josef Sladczyk, who opened the “Neue Welt” restaurant there. The hall, which was used for plays and concerts, could hold up to 2000 people. The New World was a well-known destination for Gliwice. In 1925 it became a rifle house.

In 1952 the “Operetka Śląska” (Silesian Operetta ) was founded here. In 2001 the operetta was reopened as Gliwicki Teatr Muzyczny after a renovation. The repertoire of the theater today includes not only operettas but also musicals.
