gauze
Gauze [ ˈɡaːzə ] or gauze [ mʊl ] is a light, semi-transparent fabric in a leno, mock leno or linen weave , whereby the threads in a leno weave are less offset from one another than in the last two types mentioned.
Word origin
The foreign or loan word gauze was adopted from French , with the French gaze apparently originally from Arabic قزّ / qazz comes from. A linguistic connection is also possible with the Palestinian city of Gaza , namely as a possible important former production site for this fabric.
The word Mull , however, comes as a term for tissue the English mull [mɐl], which in turn from Hindi comes (Malmal) , and there the meaning "very soft" owns.

- Heavily finished gauze is mostly used as a raw material in embroidery .
- In bookbinding , when stapling or adhesive binding, the gauze is stuck to the back of the book block for reinforcement and for better durability . The gauze strip is a bit shorter and wider than the book block .
- In screen printing , gauze serves as a screen. As a canvas , it is used to project laser shows and plastic holograms . When filming / lighting films, the light rays are attenuated by means of gauze and a diffuse light desired in terms of mood is achieved.
