Josef Kürten

Josef Kürten (born March 20, 1928 in Düsseldorf ; † December 25, 2010 there ) was Lord Mayor of the North Rhine-Westphalian capital Düsseldorf from 1979 to 1984 .

Life

Kürten was born in Düsseldorf and also attended school there. After World War II , he helped rebuild the city's Catholic youth . He was involved in local politics for the CDU . In addition, he was active in many cultural and social initiatives in the city, for example since 1964 a member and chairman of the Düsseldorf care for the elderly, youth care and assistance for the disabled.

As Lord Mayor, Kürten succeeded Klaus Bungert (SPD), who in turn succeeded him.
