Hans Wagenführ

Hans Wagenführ (* 2 September 1886 in Helmstedt , † 21st June 1944 in France ) was 1933-1937 mayor in Dusseldorf .

Life

Wagenführ studied law at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , where he joined the Corps Thuringia in 1906 . In 1909 he passed the trainee exam . He finished his studies at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and received his doctorate as Dr. iur. After passing the assessor examination , he went to the First World War in 1914 .

In the interwar period he was initially an assistant judge in Magdeburg . In 1920 he came to Düsseldorf, where he initially worked as a company lawyer . In 1923 he switched to the Reich Finance Service. On October 1, 1931, he joined the NSDAP .

On April 13, 1933, he was appointed acting Lord Mayor of Düsseldorf and replaced Robert Lehr . On August 14, 1933, he was elected Lord Mayor. In 1937 he lost the office due to his involvement in a financial scandal (Esch scandal) within the Düsseldorf city administration. The Upper President of the Rhine Province considered him a man "whose intelligence and qualifications were in inverse proportion to the tasks that an mayor of the city of Düsseldorf had to cope with".

Wagenführ fell on the German Western Front in 1944 during World War II .
