Johann Joseph Goswin Maria von Fuchsius (born June 27, 1793 in Düsseldorf ; † September 9, 1854 there ) was a German politician and Mayor of Düsseldorf from August 1833 to June 1848.

Life

He was the second child of Johann Engelbert von Fuchsius (1754-1828) and Maria Elisabeth Wilhelmina Walburga Paeffgens (1865-1823).

On May 7, 1848, after a long illness, he applied for his retirement. The local council granted him a pension of 500 thalers. During his term of office there were severe social upheavals in Düsseldorf as well as the clashes between the long-established, predominantly Catholic population and the Prussian officials who had moved here, who for the most part adhered to the Protestant creed.

Fuchsius was married to Maria Gertrud Adelheid Stammel and had a son Engelbert Maria Hubert von Fuchsius (1822–1870)

Fuchsius has a grave of honor in the Golzheim cemetery .
