Heavy Metal Payback is the sixth solo album by the Berlin rapper Bushido . The album was released in three different versions on October 10, 2008 on Bushido's label ersguterjunge and reached number one in the album charts in Germany . In Austria and Switzerland , the album debuted at number 2. According to the record awards, the album has sold over 110,000 times.

The rappers Nyze , Kay One , Bizzy Montana , Chakuza and Summer Cem as well as the singer Cassandra Steen , the pop singer Karel Gott and the comedian Oliver Pocher have guest appearances on the album . Some of the recordings were made by an 80-piece orchestra in Bratislava .

History of origin

Regarding the title of the album, Bushido said: “Heavy Metal Payback has something final for me. This is my very personal statement. [...] With this album I bury German rap once and for all! "He wrote and composed eight songs himself with the Munich composer Martin Stock . He also said that it was a new experience for him:" With the scores we are then went to Bratislava and had our ideas re-introduced by the Slovak national orchestra. Mr. Stock conducted and 80 musicians played. I had goosebumps - sheer madness! "

In particular, the collaboration with Karel Gott received media attention. Bushido had the idea for this in November 2007 during a TV appearance by Karel Gott, where he sang a German-language cover version of Alphaville'sForever Young ” and, according to Bushido, “was amazed”. Bushido said: “We drank espresso and I explained my plan to him. I told about my mother, her illness, my life, my public perception and, as so often, expected a rejection. But Lord God shook my hand like a gentleman and answered briefly: 'Bushido, I'm with you'. "

production

With six productions, Bushido carries the largest share in the creation of the album himself by producing the titles Gangsta , Flight LH3516 , I hope you 're fine , Jenny , Hai Life and Mann im Spiegel in collaboration with Martin Stock . The latter was created in collaboration with producer Max Mostley , who also produced the titles Merk dir eins and Authority (Limited Box Edition). Another part of the beats was produced by Gee Futuristic and X-plosive, who collaborated on the songs Dogs That Bark, Don't Bite , It Comes As It Comes and Boomerang . In addition, Gee Futuristic produced the title Bonnie and Clyde in cooperation with Cassandra Steen and the title Apres Ski together with Yeebrass , which is included in the Premium Edition. The producer duo Beatlefield, consisting of the artists Chakuza and DJ Stickle , provided the background music for the pieces Paragraph 117 , 4, 3, 2, 1 (Thank you Aggro Berlin) and the first single, Ching Ching . In addition, they produced the beats for the tracks Do you know the stars and Hass on the Premium Edition. Srewaholic ( Heavy Metal ), Bizzy Montana ( The Tear Falls ), OC Beats ( Rolling Stone ), Microphono ( Outro ), Auditory ( And they thought on the Limited Box Edition) and Daniel Ward Melendez ( So Ghetto on the Premium Edition). The black music portal rap2soul ruled that “ Heavy Metal Payback is convincing overall ”, but criticizes “outliers downwards”. In addition to a lot of battle rap , in which Bushido would be in top form, he also shows his soulful side and "sometimes surprisingly open his distance from ghetto life, which he continues to celebrate on enough tracks, however".

Max Brandl judges on laut.de that Bushido "has not reached the old self-set bar [...] for a long time", but "never [...] has risen so deeply [...] through it". In view of the fact that the last split was a long time ago, the "assumption remains that the good old beef simply has to serve for lack of good ideas". Bushido should "finally get rid of his street shackles, stand by what he is now, and adapt his music to his bank balance and lifestyle" and, he concluded, turn away from gangsta rap .
