Electro Ghetto is the second solo album by the Berlin rapper Bushido . It was released on October 24, 2004 on Bushido's label ersguterjunge and is the first album for which Bushido worked together at the Universal Music Group after separating from Aggro Berlin , and accordingly his first album without guest contributions from Fler . At the same time, Electro Ghetto is Bushido's last release, on which the DJ Ilan , who was heavily involved in his first albums, worked as a producer for more than one reference track.

The album became Bushido’s first major commercial success. In Germany he reached the top 10 of the German album charts for the first time with Electro Ghetto and received his first gold record for the album in 2006 . It achieved its first chart positions in Austria and Switzerland. On January 1, 2006, Electro Ghetto was indexed in Germany . The main reason for this was the song Gangbang . The album was then re-released without the song. The indexing was lifted on May 3, 2018.

background

After Bushido entered the album charts for the first time with his previous album Vom Bordstein bis zur Skyline , he separated from Aggro Berlin in June 2004 and was signed by Universal Music , where he founded the label ersguterjunge with D-Bo . Bushido then made contact via D-Bo with the then 18-year-old Bremen rapper Baba Saad , who was invited to Berlin for the album recordings after the two had published fewer songs online, was a guest on Electro Ghetto and Bushido was a guest at himself The tour that followed the album release was accompanied on the hard tour as a backup rapper.

Emergence

Electro Ghetto was created within 8 weeks and, according to the artist, took less time to complete than Bushido's previous releases. This was due to the time intensity of his previous separation from Aggro Berlin, which is why Bushido Electro Ghetto wants to be understood as a “snapshot”. All songs, including the guest contributions by the various feature guests, were created in the same studio in Berlin. According to Bushido, it was a big concern to largely rely on musicians from his personal environment. The guest contribution by Cassandra Steens on Hope dies last was a personal wish of Bushido, which is why he asked the singer about a collaboration, but according to his own statements, he did not expect an acceptance from her.

Of the three involving Saad album titles emerged Ersguterjunge , gang bang and when we come was the later indexing Album inducing gangbang recorded first. According to Baba Saad, the entire composition of the song, including lyrics and production, only took about 35 minutes.

Aside from the songs published on Electro Ghetto , Bushido recorded other tracks while the album was being made. Bushido recorded the song Mein Cock with Baba Saad , which was not published on Electro Ghetto , but on the B-side of the single for Never again . In addition, Bushido himself contributed a remix to the single America of the Neue-Deutsche- Hütze music group Rammstein during this period . That with the rapper Flipstar of Rapduos Creutzfeld & Jakob recorded and shortly before the publication of Electro Ghetto as leak came the Internet Song Out for Fame is due to the common label Universal sometimes temporally associated with the initial phase of the album, was interviewing According Bushido however already, when he was still under contract with Aggro Berlin.

Shortly after the release of Electro Ghetto , rumors were circulating that Bushido had resorted to ghostwriters to create the album and that rapper Sentino wrote four songs on the album. Bushido explicitly denied these allegations several times, although he stated that he was sometimes influenced by Sentino's style while writing. After rapper Kay One repeated similar allegations in 2014, Baba Saad, who was present at most of the album creation, also contradicted the allegations. Sentino then contradicted Baba Saad's statements and stated that he had also written texts for him in later publications, but was not specific about his own involvement in the development of Electro Ghetto .

title

Bushido describes the title Electro Ghetto as an unclean rhyme. Bushido already used the title for the intro of his collaboration album Carlo Cokxxx Nutten . According to his own statements, with the title of the album he wanted to point out on the one hand his pioneering role in popularizing German street rape and on the other hand the independence of the word creation he devised in the youth language. In addition, the two words Electro and Ghetto adorned the rapper's forearms as tattoos even before the album was released .

content

According to Bushido's style , you can find synthesizer-heavy music and aggressive song lyrics on Electro Ghetto , but also some quieter songs like Never Again , Hope Is Last Or Butterfly . Due to the latter title, the album was sometimes perceived by the specialist press as calmer and more profound compared to previous publications by Bushido, even though Bushido himself at the time of publication of this assessment in interviews with reference to titles from previous albums such as Stupid White Man , Schau mich an or Wie an angel disagreed.

Guest contributions are represented on Electro Ghetto Azad , Bo $$ bitch Berlin, Chaker, King Ali, Sentino, Cassandra Steen , Bass Sultan Hengzt and Baba Saad. The latter is most frequently represented on Electro Ghetto with a participation in three songs . Azad and Bo $$ bitch Berlin each have two titles involved. At the same time, Electro Ghetto is Bushido's first album on which his long-time companion Fler is not represented as a feature, which Bushido justifies with the personal relationship between the two, which was damaged by his separation from the joint label Aggro Berlin.

production

Several producers were involved in the production of the album, including the Beathoavenz , DJ Desue and Bushido itself. However, most productions took Bushido's former tour DJ, DJ Ilan, who with Bushido already for Carlo Cokxxx hookers and from the curb to the Skyline collaborated . DJ Ilan produced the tracks Electro Ghetto , Ersguterjunge , Ewige Nacht , Feuersturm , Gangbang and Hope dies last . Electro Ghetto is also Bushido’s last major collaboration with DJ Ilan. On the subsequent collaboration album Carlo Cokxxx Nutten II , DJ Ilan is only involved in the intro .

Also six tracks were produced by DJ Desue , namely Typisch Ich , Teufelskreis , Germany, give me a mic , you wait for it , when we come and never again . D-Bo only produced one track. This is a butterfly . Also a song was contributed by Rasputin . The Beathoavenz also produced the tracks Kopf hoch und Gemein wie 100 . There are also various remixes by Gemein like 100 , Typisch Ich , Electro Ghetto and Nie Wieder .

Versions

After the indexing of Electro Ghetto on January 1, 2006, the album was released again without the reference title Gangbang, which was decisive for the indexing . There is now a re-release from 2005 and 2006 as well as a Limited Pur Edition (in an additional cardboard slipcase) from 2005.

Internet marketing

A few weeks before the publication of Electro Ghetto , Universal put an Electro Ghetto Player online at the beginning of October 2004 , through which users could receive the Bushido title Mitten im Menschen for free. Otherwise, a mobile phone game titled Ghetto Roulette and screensavers were published via the Electro Ghetto Player and concert tickets were raffled off.

The song Mitten in the face contained a line of text directed against Eko Fresh as a diss and was thus the trigger for a renewed conflict between him and Bushido. Eko Fresh, the on the "Carlo Cokxxx hookers" -Anspieltitel in 2003 Boss was dissed by Bushido feature guest Fler and Bushido had planned a debate by stating the artist prior to the publication of the song and already a common song called opposites attract each added. According to Bushido, the previously recorded center in the face was only released via the Electro Ghetto Player by DJ Ilan's mistake . Eko Fresh responded in early 2005 with a few lines directed against Bushido on his Disstrack Die Abrechnung . Shortly thereafter, however, both parties reconciled and released music together.

Rating of the music media

According to

dafoon.com

Electro Ghetto was rated positively to mediocre by specialist media . It has been compared many times with Bushido's solo debut Vom Bordstein zur Skyline and is often classified as the weaker album.

The e-zine Laut.de, for example, which gave Vom Bordstein zur Skyline the highest rating of 5 stars, rated Electro Ghetto with 3 stars and regularly compared it with Bushdi’s previous album as part of its criticism. With regard to the production quality, Bushido's own further development as a producer was highlighted as an example on the title song of the album, but at the same time it was established that the collaboration with a large number of producers, which distinguishes the album from Bushdi’s previous releases, “partly more, partly less successful attempts to mix one's own styles with Bushido's power attitude ”. In addition, the guest contributions by Bass Sultan Hengzt, Sentino and Azad are explicitly highlighted in the criticism, while the stanzas by King Ali and Baba Saad, the latter being compared with Bushido's previous companion Fler, in view of his many guest contributions, are rated negatively. Furthermore, the EZine judges that “at least lyrically everything stays the same,” Bushido looks for the most impressive rhymes possible without a real concept and also hits the bull's eye every now and then. "The strengths of the album are seen where Bushido" finds Bad Guy plays and leveled the ear canals with simple beats and aggressive rhymes ”, but at the same time found that the number of such songs has decreased compared to the previous album.

In a review of Electro Ghetto, the DeBug editorial team stated the New York hip-hop- oriented productions of the album and otherwise judged: "If you take away the vocal passages, this album is 'as expected' a lot of fun. Everyone gets in the face, no mother is safe anymore [...]. "

Rating of news media

In its review, the Berliner Zeitung stated that the Battlerap, which dominated the album, had a generally tiring effect, as the rappers represented on Electro Ghetto did not succeed in making them, such as Kool Savas and Eko Fresh in their early creative phase, "artistically overdone and self-deprecating ". At the same time she noted that “guests like King Ali, Bo $$ bitch Berlin and Bass Sultan Hengzt […] are not all the best rappers, but […] they are so confused and at odds with the rhythm [would rhyme] that it would again have its own quality ”. In contrast, however, the productions of the album are positively highlighted: “However, the music is particularly successful. As the album title suggests, the electronic sounds predominate, enriched with dark strings, distorted synthesizer surfaces and samples if necessary. And because Bushido doesn't care whether it fits the conventions of the genre, 'Gemein wie 100' even uses a lively dance beat. "

Critic Awards

In 2005 Bushido was nominated for the Echo for the first time for Electro Ghetto in the category Hip-Hop / R & B (national) Artist / Group of the Year . The prize in the category was given to Die Fantastischen Vier for the album Viel .
