Times Change You is the seventh solo album by the rapper Bushido and represents the soundtrack of his film Times Change You . It was released on February 19, 2010 on Bushido's label ersguterjunge . The album made it to number 2 in Germany, number 1 in Austria and number 3 in the respective album charts and according to record awards, it has sold over 110,000 copies so far.

As part of the album, Bushido worked for the first time with the regular co-producers of his subsequent releases, Djorkaeff and Beatzarre . At the same time, the album caused a sensation within the rap scene in the run-up to its release because of originally planned, but later removed guest contributions by rappers Kollegah and Farid Bang .

Emergence

Bushido had originally announced that Times Change You would each contain a guest contribution by the rappers Kollegah and Farid Bang , the latter only to be released on the limited deluxe version of the album. This announcement caused a negative reaction in parts of Bushido fan circles, as both rapper previously reconciled at this time in the midst of a musical conflict with the short with Bushido and therefore at ersguterjunge under contract standing Fler were. This had reached a preliminary climax in 2009 with the publication of the Disstracks Fanpost und Schrei nach Liebe . Bushido finally had the title removed from the final version of the album at the end of January 2010.

Bushido also recorded a song with Canadian R&B singer Melanie Fiona that was originally announced for Times Change You . Also with regard to this, it was announced from Bushido's circle before the album was released that a release of the song was not possible at the time.

production

The Berlin producers Djorkaeff and Beatzarre, who had previously produced regularly for Fler, who switched to ersguterjunge in 2009, were responsible for the background music for the tracks Intro , Airmax auf Beton , Alles wird gut , Battle on the rockz and Ich liebe dich . After the first joint collaboration on times change you Djorfkaeff and Beatzarre should be involved in the production of the majority of the subsequent Bushido publications.

In addition, a song each by Moses Pelham (Stand up) and Beatlefield (Way of a Warrior) were produced.

criticism

"[…] And otherwise? Bushido tries primarily not only to justify his lifestyle, but also to proclaim it as the norm. Knast-Abfeierei ("23 hours cell"), rumbling street postures ("Airmax on concrete") with Fler, now and then a few shots in the background, but of course also feelings ("Selina", "Stand up" with glass house) . In addition, there are thick and by the way perfectly precise musical arrangements that are more than just beats that underlay the raps with a carpet somewhere between rock and pathetic electro soundtrack. The language of expression is a little less explicit than before, but that doesn't give the record much because the strong expressions of yore have just been replaced by general underdogs. Because where the second great German rapper Sido is now an extremely smart guy who can not only work with KIZ , children's choir and Kurt Krömer , but also with rock veteran Stephan Remmler and ironically breaks his own past in the Märkisches Viertel, Bushido remains humorless and therefore waist deep in redundancy. Rating: disappointing "

“[…] All in all, 'Zeiten Wechsel Dich' is, in contrast to its predecessor, a well chosen title for the ninth album, which in the end struggles with very similar weaknesses as the feature film of the same name. Bushido himself has finally arrived in Dieter Bohlen's Germany. Depending on your mindset, you may or may not congratulate him on it - but this has nothing to contribute to the German rap landscape per se. But that's not what it wants - to the extent that everything will be fine. "

- Max Brandl

“It seems to the listener as if Germany's most famous gangster rapper simply can't come up with anything new. X times the same topics and phrases, as well as the change from the bullying rapper to the best friend who tries to cheer me up with his songs - this is no longer the Bushido I want to hear. And should he have managed to get me to his side a little lately, he has now lost it again. What remains in the end is a top-produced, lyrically solid album, but content-wise, yawning boring. If "times change you" were really representative of Bushido's entire career, I would not be able to understand his steep rise on the career ladder. "

- Pascal Ambros

Self-assessment of the artist

In an interview in 2014, Bushido times change you, along with Beyond Good and Evil , rated the weakest of his albums published to date. He stated that he had actually "imagined the album to be completely different" and, in contrast to earlier Bushido albums, a lot of third parties had influenced the music of the album, especially because of the joint release of the album with the movie of the same name.
