From the skyline to the curb back (VdSzBz for short) is the fourth solo album by the Berlin rapper Bushido . It was released on Bushido's label ersguterjunge on September 4, 2006 and distributed by Universal . It is the last album that Bushido released in collaboration with Universal and was a commercial success. On Back from the skyline to the curb , Bushido refrained from any guest contributions from other musicians for the first time. It entered the album charts at number 2 in Germany and at number 3 in Austria. In 2007 it was the first Bushido album in Germany to achieve platinum status for over 200,000 units sold. In Austria it was awarded a gold record. Until the appearance of Bushido's follow-up album 7 , it was his most successful release to date. In addition, in 2007 the album won an echo in the Hip-Hop / R & B (national) category of Artist / Group of the Year . Since 2010 the album can no longer be distributed due to copyright infringement.

background

The name is based on his first solo album Vom Bordstein bis zur Skyline , which appeared in 2003 on Aggro Berlin. The album is regarded by many critics as a milestone in German rap. Half a year after the album was released, Bushido separated from his former label and signed a contract with Universal , where he released two more solo albums with Electro Ghetto and Public Enemy No. 1 before Von der Skyline zum Bordstein zurück . With Von der Skyline zum Bordstein back , Bushido didn't want to publish a follow-up to Vom Bordstein bis zur Skyline , as the title suggests, but in relation to his previous two albums he wanted to make a closer musical approach to it.

The album is special in that it is a pure solo album and Bushido for the first time completely dispenses with features. According to Bushido, the reason for this was mainly that the album was released in February 2006, the first ersguterjunge label sampler album and at the time the album was created for December 2006 with Vendetta another release of this kind was planned. Bushido therefore did not want his album to act like another label sampler in this time window by recording guest contributions from various ersguterjunge contract artists. On the advice of Eko Fresh , he decided not to include any guest contributions.

Emergence

Large parts of the album, around half according to Bushido's information, were created in the Hyatt Hotel in Cologne , where Bushido rented a suite for himself and the producer kingsize for a period of three weeks at a price of 20,000 euros .

In total, Bushido recorded 28 tracks for the album, 24 of which were intended for the album. Originally, the 11th track on the album should have been a song called September . In view of the foiled terrorist attacks on August 10, 2006 in London , immediately before the album was released, Universal pushed for the title to be removed from the album. Bushido later stated in interviews that this concern was the cause of his subsequent separation from Universal and that he had only complied with the request of the record company because in return they released him from his contract, which would have provided for the recording of another album.

content

In this context, Bushido takes up lines of text from earlier publications in several pieces and uses them in a new context. In the title No window Bushido processed, which during the recording of his last album Enemy of the State. 1 itself temporarily in Linz in custody had been taken, several prison clichés and presents, own, according to testimony, so his own prison ironically represents.

On the album, Bushido taunts his former label colleagues Sido , Fler and B-Tight . Notably dissed be rappers like Raptile , Curse , Ercandize and Tefla and Jaleel , as well as the formation Rapsoul and members of the Berlin label Amstaff , especially Bass Sultan Hengzt . The hip-hop magazine Backspin and the hip-hop festival Splash are also mentioned derogatory.

production

As on Vom Bordstein zur Skyline , Bushido was mostly responsible for the production of the album. Only when mixing the tracks was he supported by the producer Kingsize, who was the only other producer to produce two tracks on the album.

Copyright Infringement

According to the neoclassical band Dark Sanctuary , Bushido used their song material for the album in at least eight cases. Bushido cut the loops several times in a row and put a new text over them. Only Bushido was given as the composer. An out-of-court settlement failed. The Hamburg district court sentenced Bushido on March 23, 2010 to an equitable compensation for the non-pecuniary damage. The judges awarded Dark Sanctuary damages, also because Bushido had placed his lyrics over their music without the composer's permission. The offending titles all had to be withdrawn from the sale.
