Sonnenbank Flavor is a song by the German rapper Bushido and the second single from his album Von der Skyline zum Bordstein zurück . On this, the song was first published on September 4, 2006, before it was released as a single on October 27, 2006. The latter reached number 15 in the single charts in Germany and number 25 in Austria . In 2007, the music video for Sonnenbank Flavor was nominated for the Echo Pop music award in the Best Video category, but ultimately had to admit defeat to Tokio Hotel's group's last day .

Style & content

From a stylistic point of view, Sonnenbank Flavor is an atypical work by the artist Bushido. Over long stretches it breaks with the sentence structures typical of rap and language and instead strings together nominatives without gaps , which are often but associatively linked. The Südwest Presse therefore stylistically described the song as a "stimulus word parade".

In one line of the song, Bushido , who lives in Berlin, confesses to being a fan of the Hertha BSC football club , which was reported in the press at the same time that its players often use Bushido's songs as cabin music, especially because of the action of the player Kevin-Prince Boateng . In the summer of 2007 Bushido put this statement into perspective again and expressed considerations to change the text of Sonnenbank Flavor to replace the club with " Schalke 04 or Werder Bremen " . In later interviews Bushido positioned himself as a fan of FC Bayern Munich because of his friendship with players like Jérôme Boateng , who was still active in the second team of Hertha BSC when the song was published, and Franck Ribéry because of his friendship .

The line of text “Doreen, mask man - AIDS test positive” caused a greater media stir , which was understood as “ diss ” against the rapper Sido , who appeared several times between 2003 and 2009 with a chrome skull mask, and his girlfriend at the time, the singer Doreen . At the same time, Sido and rapper B-Tight formed the duo Alles ist die Sekt , which the artists abbreviated to "AidS" . In interviews, Bushido stated that the process of creating Sonnenbank Flavor was “more difficult” than the rest of the album because of the high density of “key words ” . He assumed, therefore, that the song is likely to remain stylistically unique in his career and compared it in this respect with the title Best regards - Sincerely the German hip-hop - band The Fantastic Four .

After the single was released, remixes by Sonnenbank Flavor were offered on various online portals . A version produced by D-Bo was offered via iTunes , a remix by the producer Decay was published on the Vodafone website and a remix by the producer Screwaholic was published on the music download shop Musicload .

Music video

The production company Katapult Filmproduktion shot a music video for Sonnenbank Flavor under the direction of Hinrich Plug . This was first published on October 18, 2006, nine days before the single was released, on Bushido's homepage. A day later it celebrated its television premiere in MTV telecast TRL .

At the beginning of the video you see the rapper Eko Fresh cleaning a tanning bed and turning it on at the behest of a woman. Bushido is mainly shown during the stanzas, the text of which is illustrated in several places. For example, when Bushido's former record company Aggro Berlin is mentioned, the company's logo in the shape of a circular saw blade can be seen, which is smashed with a baseball bat . During the chorus, a large number of symmetrically arranged sunbeds are shown, each occupied by a dancing woman. In Germany the single reached number 15 on the Media Control Charts and was in the top 100 for a total of 13 weeks. Together with the double single Endgegner / Staatsfeind Nr. 1 from 2005, Sonnenbank Flavor represented Bushido's single, which had been in the German single charts longest at that time. Since then, the artist has only had the songs Alles Verloren and Für Immer Jung from the years 2007 and 2008, which stayed in the German single charts for 14 and 24 weeks respectively, could achieve a longer stay. In Austria, Sonnenbank Flavor rose to number 30 in the singles chart on November 10, 2006 and peaked at number 25 two weeks later. Overall, the song stayed in the charts for 11 weeks. Until the release of Alles Lost in 2007, Sonnenbank Flavor was Bushido's most successful single in Austria to date.

Sonnenbank Flavor received mostly positive reviews from the music media . Philipp Gässlein from the editors of the e-zine laut.de highlighted the song as one of the highlights of the album in his review of the album Von der Skyline zum Bordstein, which was rated 4 out of 5 stars, and described Bushido's performance on the Lied as well as the album titles Universal Soldier, Alphatier and Hast du was, ist du something as "atmospherically perfect".

The Rap.de editorial team judged in their review of the album that Sonnenbank Flavor and the album title Blaues Licht “make the listener believe that Bushido has found his almost lost, fearsome flow”.

Cover versions and parodies

In 2006 the rapper Prinz Pi released a cover of Sonnebank Flavor entitled Bonzenland Flavor.

The rappers Shox and Richter released the song Counter-Strike Flavor , a cover of Sonnenbank Flavor , in 2007 . This is a homage to the first person shooter series Counter-Strike .

The rapper LeHombre from Elmshorn published a parody of Sonnenbank Flavor in 2008 with Oberstufe Flavor.

In the 16th episode of the ZDF program Neo Magazin Royale , broadcast on May 28, 2015 , the German rapper Alligatoah performed part of Sonnenbank Flavor as part of the German History of Rap performed by show moderators Jan Böhmermann and Dendemann .

Tanning Flavor in other songs

In some songs by other German-speaking artists there are allusions to Sonnenbank Flavor , which is one of the most successful Bushido titles.
