Antimatter was founded in England in 1998 by Mick Moss and former Anathema member Duncan Patterson . Their music is somewhere between alternative rock and dark rock . The band describes itself as "the saddest band in the world".

The first demo work began in 1999. This was followed by the first studio album Savior (2002) and shortly thereafter Lights Out (2003). While the band's earlier works range between trip-hop and lounge music , Planetary Confinement (2005) and Leaving Eden (2007) are more reminiscent of dark rock .

Founding member Duncan Patterson left the band shortly after Planetary Confinement . Leaving Eden , now only written by Mick Moss, was highly praised by the press and named album of the month by the music magazines Zillo and Metal Shock .
