Dark Sanctuary was a French band formed in Paris in 1996 .
history
In the founding year, the band consisted of two people who released the demo recording of Bruises in 1996 on the AMSG label from the French NSBM scene; Arkdae (Fabien Pereira) played in the groups Bekhira and Osculum Infame , which belong to this scene and were greeted in the cover insert. In this scene, Deo Occidi , when asked about their opinion on the atomic bomb tests in Mururoa Atoll, the band replied that the bombs should not be tested on fish, but in Algiers and Israel . In 1997 a mini CD called Funeral Cry followed with a playing time of around 20 minutes. In 1998 Hylgaryss, Sombre Cyr and Eliane joined the band. Together they released the debut album Royaume mélancolique and gave their first concert in September.
The second album De lumière et d'obscurité was recorded in 2000 and released by Wounded Love Records , a sub-label of Avantgarde Music . After the release, Marquise Ermia left the band to complete her studies . Her seat has been replaced by Dame Pandora.
In 2003 the third album and a single were released. Both became a success in France and Germany . After a series of concerts in France they returned to Germany and produced the fourth album in 2004, the fifth in 2005 and the sixth album in 2006.
The band sued rapper Bushido in 2008 because he is said to have used their music in at least eight cases for his album Von der Skyline zum Bordstein zurück . The out-of-court settlement failed. The Hamburg district court continued to negotiate the plagiarism allegations on March 13th. The Berlin musicologist Hartmut Fladt supported the band's lawsuit with an expert opinion. Bushido was sentenced on March 23, 2010 by a Hamburg court for copyright infringement in this case to pay damages and obliged to stop selling the affected albums and samplers, as well as to recall and destroy copies already on the market.
In July 2009, Dark Sanctuary announced on its homepage that it was going to break up indefinitely and at the same time announced the release of a final, self-titled studio album for September / October 2009. On October 3, 2009, the very last concert took place in St Pancras Church in London , for which a live album is to be released.
