Monkeytown is the third studio album by the Berlin electric duo Modeselektor and was released on September 30, 2011 on Modeselector's own label Monkeytown Records. It's the best-selling Modeselektor album so far.

General

The album was recorded in Modeselector's own studio within ten weeks. It contains collaborations with Thom Yorke ( Radiohead ), Busdriver , Otto von Schirach , Miss Platnum , PVT, Anti-Pop Consortium , Siriusmo and Apparat . The two songs with Thom Yorke were initially created via Mailverkehr and were completed during a three-day studio session for which the Radiohead frontman came to Berlin. The cover and artwork of the album was created by the artist collective pathfinding, with which Modeselektor has worked several times in the past. The album uses different genres and contains elements of different styles, u. a. IDM , Rap, Techno, R'n'B, Hip-Hop, Electropop and UK Funky.

Singles and Tour Edition

Three singles from the album were released and supported by respective music videos. Shipwreck was released as a 7 "vinyl single limited to 1000 copies with another Thom Yorke collaboration" Dull Hull (Edit V7) "as B-Side. The double A 12" single Evil Twin / German Clap was followed by the third and final single This with the title All Buttons In as B-Side, also limited to 1000 pieces. No remixes were released.

On March 16, 2012, the Monkeytown Deluxe Tour Edition was released , which includes the studio album, a CD with instrumental versions of the songs and a DVD with live material, interviews and the music videos.

On Metacritic.com, the album has a 16-review rating of 67 out of 100, which is an "essentially positive" rating.

In 2012 Modeselektor won the Echo in the category "National Critics' Award" with the album .
