Bel Air is the fourth studio album by the German rock band Guano Apes and the first album after the six or eight year break.

Emergence

After the band had played together for the first time at various festivals in the summer of 2009, six years after their separation, the new album was announced at the Tuborg Green Fest Festival in Bucharest . 15 months after the reunification, the first album since 2003 was released on April 1, 2011. The first single Oh What a Night was played on the radios from January 18. The album debuted at number one in the German charts after its release.

Music genre

With fewer crossovers and more synthesizers and electro elements, Bel Air clearly differentiates itself from its predecessors. With more pop elements, the Guano Apes move away from the alternative style of their last three albums.

[...] But to draw the bow into the present, after everything that has happened to us, is of course not that easy. If I were a fan, that would irritate me too. "

- Guitarist Henning Rünemapp in an interview with laut.de.

reception

The online magazine Laut.de awarded two out of a possible five points and justified this in particular with the radical departure from the crossover, which originally made up the band. The production-related emphasis on Nasic's vocals, which downgrades the accompanying music as an accessory, is also criticized.
