Michel Teló (* 21st January 1981 in Medianeira , Paraná ) is a Brazilian Latin pop - singer .

Career start

At the age of twelve Teló was already singing in a band; In 1997 he became the singer of Grupo Tradição, a band from the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul , which had dedicated itself to the popular Sertaneja music. Almost annually he released new albums with her and was also involved as a songwriter and harmonica player. After twelve years, he decided to start a solo career and separated from his bandmates by mutual agreement. After his departure, the last album together Micareta Sertaneja 2 was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category for Brazilian music.

In 2009 Teló released his first solo album Balada Sertaneja . A first hit from it was Egg, Psiu! Beijo, Me Liga . A little later his first live album Michel Teló Ao Vivo was released , which was awarded gold . It also contained the song Fugidinha , which brought him the breakthrough and number one in the Brazilian Hot 100.

The success of Ai Se Eu Te Pego!

His biggest hit, the dance number Ai Se Eu Te Pego! ('Woe if I get you'), was another number one radio hit on the Brazilian Hot 100 in the summer of 2011. The song became internationally known when Brazilian soccer player Neymar danced to it in a YouTube video recorded in the dressing room . The video has been viewed several million times. In October 2011, Cristiano Ronaldo, who played for Real Madrid , performed the dance moves created for the song on the pitch after scoring a goal. This made Ai Se Eu Te Pego! so popular in Spain that it hit the charts in several versions in mid-November. A week later, Michel Teló's version went straight to number 1 . In a very short time, the dance movement spread first on the European football fields and then the song in the charts. In Italy it rose to number 1 on the download charts, later it became number one in Belgium and the Netherlands and it was also able to reach number one in German-speaking countries. Another contributing factor was the fact that in January 2012 the television show I am a star - get me out of here! The title was sung by the Brazilian soccer player Aílton and other participants as part of the show and the corresponding dance was performed. In March 2012 it was announced that Ai Se Eu Te Pego! with over 600,000 digital units sold, it set the record as the best-selling single download in Germany to date.

The song is by far the most viewed Portuguese-language song on the Internet platform YouTube and the first with which a singer from Brazil reached number one in the German charts. Before Ai Se Eu Te Pego! the last number one hit sung in Portuguese in Germany was the song Lambada by the group Kaoma, which was composed and produced in France .
