Rockbuster is a newcomer contest from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for bands and solo artists. The competition has been held annually since 1995 by the non-profit LandesArbeitsGemeinschaft Rock & Pop in Rhineland-Palatinate eV on behalf of the Ministry for Science, Further Education and Culture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and with the support of Dasding . After several preliminary rounds that take place in different places in the country, three artists will be chosen as winners in a final round and included in a funding program. There will also be an appearance at the Rock am Ring music festival. The first final round took place on September 30, 1995. In addition to the winners of the individual preliminary rounds, a well-known headliner appears in the final rounds every year. Jupiter Jones (2nd place 2003) are among the most famous participants in Rockbuster .

competition

The competition consists of a registration phase, national preliminary rounds and the final round. The application phase runs from January 1 to March 31 and is possible for bands / solo artists if at least half of the musicians are resident in Rhineland-Palatinate, at the time of application there is no contract with well-known record companies / music publishers, only their own Songs and at least 30 minutes can be played live and the average musician is not higher than 30 years. In a preliminary round, 5 bands each play, which were previously selected by an independent expert jury. The preliminary rounds take place between May and June at geographically different locations in Rhineland-Palatinate. After each preliminary round, the jury selects the two best artists. First place goes straight to the Rockbuster finals, second place has to be in an intermediate round in August. There are two more places available for the final round, which takes place in autumn each year. The winning bands from the preliminary rounds and the two qualifiers from the intermediate round play here. The three winners of the final round selected by the jury will be included in a funding program. The sponsorship awards are equal for all three artists.
