Farmer Boys is an alternative metal - band from Stuttgart , which was founded in 1994 by Matthias Sayer, Dennis Hummel, Alexander Scholpp, Till Hartmann and Ralf Botzenhart.

history

The Farmer Boys owe their name to an old classmate Sayers and Hummels nicknamed "Schorsch", who comes from a rural background. Based on this - and to support a certain running gag - the two wrote a song called "Bauern Power", which laid the foundation for the creation of this band.

Record labels such as Intercord and Absorbing began to prick up their ears after strong self-promotion by the band ( gigs , stickers). In 1995 the first album Countrified was released under BMG Ariola . In order to be true to its name, the lyrics of the songs published on it are written from the perspective and point of view of a wide variety of animals that eke out their existence on farms and farms. Chew The Cud is more humorous, highlighting darker aspects of agriculture such as incest ( Farm Sweet Farm ) and animal cruelty ( When a Chicken Cries for Love ). With the song From Pig to Man and the design of the booklet on the CD (depicting a drawn pig face) reference is made to Orwell's novel and its animated film Animal Farm . The album also includes a cover of the band Depeche Mode ( Never Let Me Down Again ) with Anneke van Giersbergen . Scholpp played on the album with a Dropped-A mood .

On the 1997 album Till The Cows Come Home a stronger urge to thrash metal can be seen . The guitar riffs were more pronounced and developed in this direction. Sayer's texts continue to deal largely with the subject of farms and animal husbandry. The title Boar again refers to Orwell's Animal Farm . The CD booklet shows a US farmer with a stuffed two-headed calf that was born a few years after a reactor accident near the farm. Scholpp tuned his guitars a semitone lower for this album than on the previous album .

1999 began the recordings for the third album The World Is Ours . During the course of the recording, the bassist role was replaced: Ralf Botzenhart gave up his place in the band. For him came Antonio Ieva (Letter X, changin`attitude, stereo.pilot etc.), who recorded the titles The Good Life , Cowboys and Angels and A New Breed of Evil as his debut . In August 2000 the album gained access to the general public. Based on their then established style, the individual songs convince with their cleverly balanced mixtures and changes in musical elements. A stylistic proximity to the music from the 1980s was ascribed to the vocal melodies. The keyboard Dennis Hummel's got a more central and carry role than earlier albums. The World Is Ours entered the German album charts at number 27 .

In 2002 Matthias Sayer appeared as a guest singer of the Finnish music group Apocalyptica on their single Hope Vol.2 .

In January 2004, the Farmer Boys released their latest work, The Other Side . Stylistically, it ties in with its predecessor. As in the past, the premiere was followed by several festival appearances . Since then it has become quiet around the Farmer Boys. Till Hartmann now runs a tattoo studio, Alexander Scholpp and Ralf Botzenhart play together in the band Dacia & The Weapons of Mass Destruction . In addition, Alexander Scholpp, who founded a guitar school in Stuttgart, still guitarist of the metal band Stuttgarter loader and since 2007 on the solo album My Winter Storm by Tarja Turunen to hear and actively as their tour guitarist. Antonio Ieva has also found a new place for himself in the band Brainstorm and is touring the world with them. He can also be heard on various projects and studio jobs. Also with the country rock duo "Backyard Kingdom". After studying audiovisual media at the Stuttgart Media University, Matthias Sayer pursues postgraduate studies in the USA and works as a film composer. Together with Dennis Hummel he works on the electro-pop project Her Secrets . An official statement about the dissolution of the Farmer Boys was never available.

On December 22nd, 2008, a concert by the Farmer Boys took place at the Die Röhre club in Stuttgart under the motto “Heimspiel reloaded”. On October 11, 2010, the last album The Other Side by the Polish record label Metal Mind Productions , with three songs and a video as bonus material, was re-released. On August 20, 2011, the Farmer Boys performed at the Summer Breeze Festival 2011. In December 2016, the band surprisingly returned after a long break and announced three live shows via Facebook for April 2017 as well as a new album to be released in autumn of that year.

On April 21, 2017, the mini-EP You and Me will be released online with the three tracks Emperor , You and Me and Revolt . It should also be available for purchase as a CD at concerts. The first tour dates, live appearances and club gigs after this release concern Hamburg, Cologne and Stuttgart.

style

Your music stands out due to its complexity. Soft, sometimes almost poppy melodies alternate with brutal guitar riffs . The preference for the sound from the 1980s is reflected in the later albums in Sayer's vocal melodies .
