The Hochschule der Medien ( HdM ) is a state university of applied sciences based in Stuttgart . Almost 30 accredited Bachelor and Master courses are available: from printing to audiovisual media, information management and computer science , advertising or media production to media management and packaging technology.

history

The university was created in 2001 from the merger of the University of Printing and Media (founded in 1903) and the University of Library and Information Science (founded in 1942). The founding rector of the university was Uwe Schlegel , who had previously been the rector of the university for printing and media.

At the end of the 2014 summer semester, the university's information and communication faculty moved to the Stuttgart-Vaihingen research campus , in the immediate vicinity of the University of Stuttgart. Until then she was on Wolframstrasse in Stuttgart-Nord , where the private VWA University is now located .

profile

In all courses of study, according to the company, active knowledge transfer is offered through theory and practical projects. Media content, technology and business would be linked. Teamwork would be trained, conceptual thinking would be trained and the organization of media activities would be practiced.

The course content is accredited and regularly checked by quality assurance measures and adjusted to current developments in the media industries. A practical semester is part of the bachelor's degree. In the master’s degree courses, the theoretical specialist knowledge is conveyed to a greater extent, which is often checked for suitability in project hours. In cooperation with partner universities there is the possibility of doing a doctorate at the HdM.

University institutes

The Institute for Applied Research has been bundling the HdM's research activities on topics from various media areas since 2005, from printed electronics and digital media to information design. The Startup Center is the contact point for students who want to set up and manage a company. The HdM is a founding member and the seat of HORADS , the campus radio in the Stuttgart / Ludwigsburg region.

courses

Since the 2004 winter semester, the HdM has been one of the first universities in Germany to convert its courses to Bachelor's and Master's degrees as part of the Bologna Process . For the 2011/2012 winter semester, the bachelor's degree was extended from six to seven semesters and the master's was shortened to three instead of four. There are currently three faculties:
