Highfly was an existing 1998-2008 Alternative - crossover band from the area Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

The occasionally 6-member "underground-heavy Groovecore" band emerged from a music project by various musicians in 1998. The musicians got to know each other at concerts, parties and club visits in and around Koblenz. All of them brought with them the most varied of experiences from previous band projects.

The original line-up was formed from this project. Musicians from the band Weird Conflict from Mendig and musicians from Ladybird from the Neuwied area were involved. The band started out for their first appearances with 3 MCs, drums, guitar and bass.

The band started as a sound carrier with a live recording, which illustrates their live ambitions. The first demo Smart Funny & Action Packed , also a live recording, was used for promotional purposes for gig inquiries and applications.

After internal conflicts, MC Michael F. left the band in 1999.

Since the members were committed to the crossover style, there was no DJ for samples and scratches for the mix of the time. For this, the former drummer of Weird Conflict, Christian Kröll, was brought back on board, who had already dealt with DJ mixing and in this role joined the band under the pseudonym "DJ CORE". The band recorded their first demo in Siegburg with this line-up, which was never published or copied.

From the beginning, Highfly tried hard to get a lot of live performances. Many organizers valued them as a good live band that was often booked for small events. In 2001 the FLI guitarist Boris Hermann enriched the band as the second guitarist with his guitar style.

In 2001 Renè Bouda also left the band. He was primarily responsible for the shoutings, which DJ CORE then took over. As a DJ he had a microphone right from the start and took part in the raps and shoutings, sometimes with his own parts, to which he left his DJ area during live performances in order to get involved in the “front”.

The band recorded their debut album Pussy-Pop on their own in the rehearsal room and in the basement of guitarist Christoph Kramb. The album was released in 2002 and the 1000 edition was immediately sold out. The song Mankind was played in hip clubs. Highfly increasingly took part in youth events, such as the demo listening session in Dortmund and the Emergenza in Cologne. The band took a back seat at Emergenza because they couldn't mobilize enough fans. At the demo listening session, the band received positive and negative reviews for their debut album, Pussy Pop . There the band made some contacts, including with the band Headtrip, which a year later got a major deal with Motor Music under the name 4Lyn .

In 2003, Highfly took 3rd place in the “Eifelrock” junior competition organized by RPR1 in Mendig. In 2004 there was a break with Christoph Kramp (guitar) and Michael Jablonski (drums). Both left the band and were replaced by Daniel Ecker (guitar), who had been with the band as a technician for some time, and Wolfgang Jonas (drums). With the line-up came new musical wind into the band, which further developed their sound quality.

With this line-up, Highfly worked for a long time on their own EP It Doesn't Matter in Daniel Ecker's own studio (including Caliban ), which was released in 2005. The song It Doesn't Matter stayed in the top three of the Netzparade radio charts on SWR radio station Dasding for a full 12 weeks. In the renowned music portal " Besonic ", It Doesn't Matter got stuck in the top 75 of the global alternative charts for 14 weeks and even reached number 1 for two weeks.

In 2004 Highfly reached the 3rd place in the rockbuster finals of the LAG Rock and Pop and thus received a grant. Thanks to the funding, the band was able to go one step further. She won the cooperation of Thomas Kemper in Cologne, who u. a. the third work of the band Thumb produced. 2006 the EP Waiting was worked on in Cologne , which was published in 2007.

In May 2005 Highfly were on tour in Germany with the US crossover veterans, Dog Eat Dog .

With more than 200 concerts in the whole of Germany and the neighboring countries, Highfly have achieved the status of a permanent fixture in the area of "alternative / crossover".

During various tours the band acted as support for acts like u. a. Dog Eat Dog, Clawfinger , Such a Surge , Die Happy , 4Lyn , Emil Bulls , Juli , Exilia , Silbermond and Alternative Allstars.

In autumn 2005 the band received the invitation to be part of the Taste of Chaos , here they shared the stage and a. with The Used , Killswitch Engage , Story of the Year , Rise Against and Funeral for a Friend .

Some of the band's highlights were the two invitations in 2007 to guest appearances on Top of the Pops in the RTL studios in Cologne. Here they shared the stage with stars such as B. Motörhead , Avril Lavigne or the Black Eyed Peas . Highfly were also guests on GIGA TV in the Jana Ina show .

In 2007 DJ CORE left the band for personal reasons. The other musicians finally parted ways in 2008.

style

The style of the band was shaped by the different musical styles ( punk , hardcore punk , hip-hop and metal ) of the individual musicians. From 1998 onwards, the band declared their own style as “Groove Core”, after the line-up in 2004 as “Alternative Crossover”.
