Bløf is a Dutch band. She plays commercially oriented rock music with lyrics in Dutch . The successful group was founded in 1992 in the Zeeland provincial capital Middelburg .
Band history
Originally the band consisted of Peter Slager (bass, vocals), Bas Kennis (keyboards, vocals), Paskal Jakobsen (lead vocals, guitar) and Henk Tjoonk (drums). After Henk Tjoonk left, he was replaced by Chris Götte. Götte was killed in a traffic accident three years after joining the group in 2001. In his honor, the remaining members brought the live CD Oog in Oog onto the market, the entire proceeds of which went to the “Warchild” foundation. After a one-year break, Norman Bonink (formerly with Frank Boeijen ) was hired as the new drummer. The line-up has not changed since then.
The band plays driving, rocking numbers, acoustically accentuated ballads and poppy sounds in a medium tempo. The choruses are catchy, the lyrics deal primarily with interpersonal relationships and are almost exclusively written by bassist Peter Slager. According to the information on the cover, all band members were involved in the compositions of the Omarm album .
The highlight of their concert tours in the Netherlands is their performance in the sold-out Ahoy Rotterdam sports arena , where 10,000 tickets have been sold since 1999. On various occasions Bløf invited non-English speaking artists from Portugal and Latin America to participate in their performances in Rotterdam and Amsterdam .
The band played with the Kenyan popular Femi Kuti at a concert in the slums of Nairobi . As part of the double platinum album Umoja (Einheit), Bløf traveled to 13 countries to record new songs with locally known musicians, for example Hemingway in Cuba with Eliades Ochoa ( Buena Vista Social Club ).
The highlight of their concerts in the Netherlands is the appearance in the Ahoy Rotterdam sports arena , where 10,000 tickets have been sold out every year since 1999. Since 2003, Bløf has established a new festival in the province of Zeeland with the support of Zeeland companies and various radio stations. In 2003, Bløf played a benefit concert in front of almost 40,000 people for the first time at Brouwersdam (near Renesse). In 2006 over 60,000 people came to experience Bløf as the closing band of this festival, now called Concert at Sea . The special feature of the concert are the moderate entrance fees.
Trivia
The band wrote the title song for the films Alles is liefde (2007) and De Storm (2009).
The title of the German-language crime novel A Beautiful Day for Death (Oktober Verlag, Münster, 2009) by author Harald Keller quotes the last line of the Bløf song Mooie Dag . The music title is named as the source in the book and also mentioned in the plot.
In 2017, together with the Belgian musician Geike Arnaert, they released the song Zoutelande , which is a Dutch version of the piece Frankfurt / Oder by Bosse and Anna Loos . Zoutelande made it to the top of the Dutch singles chart.
Awards
- Edison Music Prize .
- Bløf received several gold and platinum records.
