Geike Arnaert (born September 13, 1979 in Poperinge ) is a Belgian musician. She became known as the singer for Hooverphonic .

Life

She grew up in a music-loving family in Heuvelland , and as a child she took violin and piano lessons. At the age of 9 she first took part in a local talent competition. When she was 15 she sang in a band called Bottled in Belgium . In 1997 she became the new singer of Hooverphonic after Liesje Sadonius left the band and the replacement Kyoko Baertsoen left after only a few concerts. After a short trial period, she went on tour with Hooverphonic. On The Magnificent Tree (2000), her second album with Hooverphonic, she wrote lyrics for the first time for the title track and Pink fluffy dinosaurs .

In 2000 and 2003 she was awarded the Belgian music prize Zamu Music Award as best singer .

In 2002 she appeared as a guest singer on the album Bring it on by New Cool Collective and was featured on the soundtrack of the Belgian television series Sedes & Belli with the song Strange lit star . In 2006 she sang in a commercial for the Delhaize Group .

In 2008 she appeared as a guest singer in a music project by the Belgian singer-guitarist Bobbejaan . In the same year she granted the cancer rapper Vijvenveertig his wish to work with her and contributed vocals to the single Mijn Leven , which made it into the Belgian charts two months after the rapper's death.

In October 2008 she announced her departure from Hooverphonic in order to devote herself to her solo career in the future. She played her last concert with the band on December 13, 2008 in Yekaterinburg .

In October 2011, her solo debut album was released under the title For the beauty of confusion .

Together with Bløf , she sang the song Zoutelande in 2018 , which became a hit in the Netherlands and Flanders.

Her sister Kaat Arnaert is the singer in the Belgian band Sutrastore .
