Alles ishlede ( Dutch for “Everything is love”) is a Dutch love comedy by director Joram Lürsen from 2007. In its country of production, the film reached number 3 of the most successful films of the year (after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End ). It resulted in a sequel and two remakes , including the German Alles ist Liebe at the end of 2014 .

action

The Sinterklaas actor dies shortly before the traditional televised arrival. A mysterious new Sinterklaas steps in. When a little girl falls into the water upon arrival, he saves her and then disappears. The production assistant for the television broadcast tracks him down again and persuades him to make further television appearances for a fee. Due to its unconventional appearance, the new Sinterklaas quickly became popular.

Klaasje, the daughter of the late Sinterklaas actor, has split up with Dennis, who cheated on her with a teacher. Dennis tries to win Klaasje back, but his chances deteriorate when she meets 16-year-old Daniël at her father's funeral, who becomes her lover. But the age difference put Klaasje off again after a while. Meanwhile, the teacher tries in vain to land with Dennis. When Klaasje realizes that not only Dennis' feelings for her, but also her own feelings for him are unbroken, the two get together again.

Klaasje's best friend Simone, the mother of the girl rescued by Sinterklaas, is the focal point of the family. Her husband Ted feels quite redundant as a result. He has lost his job, but is hiding it from Simone. When he steals a necklace and gives it to Simone as a present, she suspects behind all his secrecy that he is cheating and reacts to it with hyperactivity . When she has a nervous breakdown, the couple are reconciled and Ted promises to help out with the family in the future.

The lifeguard Victor looks forward to the wedding with his great love Kees, the undertaker who also buried Klaasje's father. But Kees has doubts and tries to get rid of his fears by playing live action role playing at the weekend. When the wedding ceremony is finally in full swing, he still runs away without having given Victor the yes.

Victor's sister Kiki is a saleswoman in the jewelry department of a large department store and dreams of the arrival of a Prince Charming. When Sinterklaas arrives, the horse on which Kiki is sitting (she is disguised as a package to advertise the department store) goes by and runs straight towards Crown Prince Valentijn, who instantly falls in love with her. The next day, Valentijn visits Kiki in the department store, but she refuses him because, in her opinion, he has never had to exert himself for anything, everything has flown to him. In order to still be close to her, the Crown Prince worked from then on as Zwarte Piet in the department store. Kiki is impressed by his efforts and finally responds to his recruitment. After a stormy night, Valentijn disappears without saying goodbye. At first Kiki is angry, but she gets over it.

It turns out that the temporary Sinterklaas, who is actually a homeless man named Jan, is the father of Kees. The two had lost sight of each other, but Kees recognized his father during one of the TV appearances. After he has reconciled with Victor, the latter brings him to his father.

background

The film was made at the suggestion of the producer Job Gosschalk, who, inspired by the film Actually ... Love , wanted to make a romantic comedy with a large number of stars. The shooting took place from October to December 2006. Due to the episodic narrative of the film, the film crew was very divided, each episode took around nine days of shooting. The arrival of Sinterklaas was recorded during the real event.

The film premiered on October 8, 2007 in the Tuschinski Theater in Amsterdam and opened regularly in Dutch cinemas on October 11.

reception

Ronald Ockhuysen described the film in De Volkskrant as a “sparkling, accurate variation” on Actually… love , with “top actors” in the lead roles. The “connecting factor” of the film is the “original Dutch Sinterklaasfest”.

In AD , Annemart van Rhee describes the film as a “warm-hearted comedy that never becomes sentimental” and as a “fairy tale with the scent of pepper nuts ”. The “sometimes quite predictable storylines” would “never get boring” because there was “enough to enjoy”. The British template is used “in an expert manner”, the story finds the “right balance of laughter and tears” and the characters are “both vulnerable and recognizable” despite their slapstick-like features.

The film was awarded the following prizes in 2008:

  • Rembrandt Award (Audience Award) - Best Film, Best Actress (Carice van Houten), Best Actor (Thomas Acda)
