NPO 1 (until August 19, 2014 Nederland 1 ) is a Dutch public television broadcaster. NPO 1 is one of three national public service broadcasters of the Nederlandse Publieke Omroep (NPO). The television station is based in Hilversum .
The station started on October 2, 1951. Since September 4, 2006, the station has had its current profile as a “general” program. Among other things, programs from NPO 2 were taken over. The previous claim Samen op 1 (“Together on 1”) reflected this profile.
The station is aimed at a wide audience. Information programs, sports programs and entertainment programs (series, shows) are broadcast. Current events (parliamentary sessions , Koningsdag , and others) are also broadcast on NPO 1.
From the beginning, NPO 1 broadcast via antenna in the VHF range and thus had a high range in the neighboring countries of Belgium , Germany and the United Kingdom. However, since the switch to digital aerial television , the range has changed. Encrypted transmission via satellite . After the first test broadcasts in 2008, there has also been an HD version of the channel since July 4, 2009.
In Germany, NPO 1 could be received digitally in North Rhine-Westphalia in the cable television network of NetCologne and NetAachen . Since September 2, 2015, however, it can only be received on Pay TV.
